Policy environment and trade barriers
The EU's green barriers have been upgraded
The EU RoHS directive requires zipper products to pass hazardous substance tests. Starting from 2025, the Digital Product Passport (DPP) will cover the entire life cycle. Chinese enterprises need to adopt materials such as recycled polyester and organic cotton. For instance, Qingdao Aige Jinyi has passed the GRS global recycling standard certification, and the proportion of its eco-friendly zippers exported to the European Union has increased to 25%.
U.S. Tariffs and Localization Layout
Against the backdrop of the United States imposing a 25% tariff on imported zippers, enterprises are accelerating the restructuring of the North American supply chain. Xunxing Co., Ltd. has set up a factory in Mexico, taking advantage of the USMCA rules of origin to evade tariffs. The initial plan is to produce 38,000 tons of zippers annually. Cross-border e-commerce achieves "local delivery" through overseas warehouses in the United States, reducing logistics costs by 15% to 20%.
Policy Dividends and Challenges in Southeast Asia
Turkey exempts local factory-setting enterprises from an additional 40% tariff and only levies a 10% tariff to attract Chinese enterprises to set up businesses. Indonesia and Vietnam have promoted industrial upgrading through tax incentives, but local competition has intensified. In 2023, China's zipper exports to Indonesia decreased by 8.7% year-on-year.
